Great show on Staurday: Luciana won the GP of Verona with Bluebuster. Edouard de Rothschild: Super Congratulations. What a great show for all of us and for her !
Portugal's Luciana Diniz produced a spectacular performance from Bluebuster to win this afternoon's Small Grand Prix presented by SNAI at Jumping Verona 2012. The 41 year old rider was one of just three to find the key to Rolf Ludi's first-round track, and in the thrilling second-round jump-off was super-fast, and the only one to stay clear.

Ludi's course proved immensely difficult for many of the 37 starters, with problems in particular at the triple combination at fence eight. "It was very big for a Mini Grand Prix", the winning rider said. "Riders were competing with their second horses, and the first round track was just too much for a lot of them" she added.

That didn't apply to Bluebuster however. Diniz only began riding the 11 year old gelding shortly after the London Olympic Games, "and he's wonderful!" she pointed out. Her relationship with her new ride has developed very quickly, and the pair who finished fifth in the Hannover Grand Prix in Germany recently, came out with all guns blazing in today's jump-off round.

It was Ireland's Jessica Kuerten who set the pace with API Largo, but she left the door wide open with two fences down in 39.09 seconds. Diniz was next to go, and she set off like a rocket, weaving her way around the track to break the beam in 37.73 without touching a pole, and that really put it up to the final pair.

The home crowd were right behind their man, Juan Carlos Garcia, and they gave him a huge reception before he set off with Prince de la Mare. But the eight year old gelding arrived too deep to the penultimate vertical and left that on the floor for four faults and second place with the clock showing 38.97 seconds.

Diniz was delighted with her result. Bluebuster was previously ridden by Vladimir Tugenov, but the Russian has retired from the sport and when Diniz sold one of his horses for him recently then Tugenov offered her Bluebuster, "and I just love him!" she says. "He is so brave and quick and nice to ride" said the lady who always shows great affection for all of her horses.

Savouring her victory today, she was also looking forward to taking Bluebuster to the Global Champions Tour Final in a few weeks' time. "He will be my second horse there, but I believe he has the ability to go to the very top!".

In the Worldcup class Winningmood and her had two faults.
